“Docile Bodies”. Our present structures in society to maintain control are based on a history of the discipline of the body. Based on Michel Foucault’s ideas of the architecture of power, the Panopticon, this piece represents the timelessness of this system of power where the many are controlled by the few. The individuals in the Panoptican (all-seeing place) remain constantly visible to the controllers who remain invisible, their gaze becoming a trap as he writes, “They are like so many cages so many small theatres, in which each actor is alone, perfectly individualised and constantly visible. However in these photographic pieces it is the viewer that is implied to be in the position of control.
